Stylist, Creative Director and Visual Co-ordinator, Ste Wing gave us his edit. Over at boohooMAN HQ, we talked him through the AW15 collection. Here are his top 5 take aways; from the essential updates to the practical pieces your wardrobe needs. 1. Acid Wash Black Denim Jacket You can’t go wrong with a good denim jacket, and with it coming into winter it’s a great layering item.2. Faux Fur Coat Heading in to winter you need a coat. I love the khaki tone of this one. It takes away from what I normally wear; dark colours. Love the details, the drawstring for a tighter fit and great pocket detailing. Nice. 3. Navy Ribbed Longline Knit Great item to wear with Joggers, great for throwing on over a t-shirt on cold early morning call times.4. Acid Wash Grey T-shirt Nice. Simple. Basic. Does the job. Layered with darker colours it’ll be great to add another tone to my look.5. Joggers Great for comfort and lazy days but you can still look good! Follow Ste on Instagram @ste_wing
The Power of Pokémon
As we’re sure many of you have already heard, Nintendo’s launch of Pokémon Go has taken the world by a storm (and it’s not even launched in most countries yet!). In less than a week it’s been used by armed robbers to lure players into a trap, it lead one player to come across a dead body and it was apparently downloaded onto more US Android smartphones than the dating app Tinder within a day of its launch. Woaaah. So what actually is it? We hear you say…It’s a “real world adventure”. That means it uses GPS and augmented reality (AR) to allow you to hunt and train Pokémon as you’re out and about in your neighbourhood. AR functionality uses your smartphone or tablet’s back-facing camera to display Pokémon as though they are actually in front of you.Mind.Blown.Ahead of its launch in the UK, we’ve broken down our top 5 Pokémon to keep you going… #5 Gengar Ghost/Poison type Pokémon with a cracking set of teeth #4 Mew Mew is notable for its unique ability to learn every Technical Machine, Hidden Machine and Move Tutor move#3 Pikachu Pikachu are mouse-like creatures, and were the first "Electric-type" Pokémon created, their design intended to revolve around the concept of electricity #2 Rayquaza Rayquaza is the game mascot of Pokémon Emerald, appearing on the boxart of the game #1 Charizard Charizard is explicitly a Fire/Flying-type, not a Dragon-type, except in its "Mega Charizard X" form; however, it can learn Dragon-type attacks - BOOM
The Croft Off | Jolie vs. Vikander
Don't deny it Lara Croft, even pixelated in the original 1996 game, was one of our first crushes. Not only was she undeniably hot, she had some big assets: beautiful, intelligent, athletic and she knew her way around a gun or two...So when it came to bringing this character to life there was a tall order to fill and Angelina Jolie was the perfect answer. Action star ready she only upped the anti on our Lara Croft crush. Last night it was announced that Alecia Vikander will be taking on the role of Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider Reboot, and we don't know what to think! We can't deny she's a stunner and she's already proved to have Croft qualities in Ex Machina: intelligent and beautiful - even as a robot! But can she compete with Jolie? It's time for a Croft Off!Bad Ass LevelJolie can curve bullets in The Wanted, kicks ass against her future hubby in Mr and Mrs Smith and proves she's the best secret agent in Salt -and all with so much sass. Vikander may not have as many action movies under her belt as Jolie but when she does she doesn't mess about. The moment when she get's her own back on her creator in Ex Machina is down right cold, she even leaves the good guy behind -just ruthless. Jolie 1-0 Vikander The LookVikander draws you in with that cute look but you can't let those innocent eyes fool you - poor Caleb didn't see it coming. This good girl gone bad look totally works for us. But Jolie is pure wild child bad girl with those tats and her famous lips - we don't stand a chance against those features. Jolie 2- 1 VikanderWifey MaterialHumanitarian, mother of 6 and Oscar winning actress Jolie has it all. Too bad we can't really compete with hubby Brad Pitt... awkward. Vikander shows of her beauty and brains in The Danish Girl and Ex Machina and and also has the hidden skill of being a professional ballet dancer. But more importantly she's single! Vikander Wins! Jolie 2 - 2 VikanderActually we can't make our minds up, who is the true Lara Croft? You decide on social: Tweet us @boohooMan #CroftOff
boohooMAN meet Ady Suleiman
My man Ady is in another lane. His voice is something else. It's amazing." Joey Bada$$ He's just finished his UK tour and his single 'What's The Score' featuring Joey Bada$$ is out now. So what better time to catch up with the singer, songwriter hailed as a one to watch by the likes of Beat and Hunger TV. 1. Can you describe your sound for anyone who hasn’t heard you yet?My sound hmm… I guess it’s a unique blend of R’n’B, Reggae, Hip-Hop and Soul, but it’s really difficult to describe and categories because it depends on the song. The song dictates everything and some songs take more influence from different genres. I would say that what is key and also what unifies my music is my voice. 2. How’s the tour going?Fuckin’ sick! I have loved it so much. I have felt so much love over the course of the tour, it has been a great experience and I'm just excited to keep growing, performing and putting out more music.3. You collaborated with Joey Bada$$, any more collaborations on the horizon? For sure, just can’t say much about them just yet. I got a remix coming with Winta James, which sounds dope so excited to drop that.4. Who would be your dream collaboration, dead or alive?Jimi Hendrix and/or Bob Marley, even to sing BV’s for them would be ridiculous!5. Who inspires you musically? The big one is probably Amy Winehouse but so many artists have inspired me. Such as Stevie Wonder, Lauren Hill, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Bob Marley, Chet Baker and Ray Charles.6. How do you start to write a song? What’s your process? It always starts with melody or chords first so basically music before any lyrics, that’s what comes more naturally to me. I love writing lyrics but I wouldn’t say I’m a natural wordsmith, I definitely find improvising melodic hooks easier. So once I have my melodies and chords, I then start to think about lyrics and what I want to say, that’s what usually takes time to do.7. Highlight so far? Winning Giles Peterson’s Breakthrough Act of the Year has been the highlight so far. It’s my first and only award in music and to get it from Giles, a guy that I have listened to on radio for years was dope. Very un-expected which made it all the better.8. Who are you listening to at the moment?Anderson. Paak and Donny Hathaway are on repeat at the moment. I just checked Kendrick Lamar’s new album it’s alright, definitely need to give it another listen but I’m a huge fan of all three especially Donny.9. Who or what are your style inspirations?Good question. I’m not sure I have any, I usually just clock what people are wearing in my normal day to day a lot of old dudes wear the sickest hats and shirts haha! I love vintage clothes and dungarees so I guess I fuck with 90’s fashion but there is a thin line between looking class and looking stupid. I also love to put a suit on when the occasion is right.10. Describe your style in 3 words? Hand-me-downs11. What can we expect to see next? You will probably catch me this summer playing some festivals like Park Life in Manchester, I also want to travel to Europe and do some shows out there. I will be dropping my next single very soon, just re-shooting my video and then the album will be out this year also so lots going on.
In Review: Berlin
Back at HQ and missing the hustle and bustle of buyers and wannabe-types, 'monochrome crowds' and the blogger overcoats! It was a long, tiring week but yours truly was goin’ in, in Berlin, to discover the latest trends for next season.Heading to Seek, Bright, Premium and Panorama, I managed to get a sneak peak at the latest collections for AW16. The show ran from 19-21st and attracts an international audience, including an array of young, fresh designers. My aim was to attend as many shows as my legs, and time, would allow! Starting with Seek focusing on contemporary men’s fashion & lifestyle brands. Next, I moved onto Bright tradeshow, an exciting venue for streetwear, urban wear and youth fashion, checking out loads of new streetwear, skate and urban brands as I went. Seek and Bright were connected through a shared outdoor space, with a shuttle service running from Seek to its sister show Premium throughout the three days making it really easy to get around. On day 3 I hit up Premium and Panorama. I guess with Premium, the name speaks for itself...luxe high-end brands with a mix of fashion with lifestyle brands too. Here’s a few tips for survival1. Take some water!! Gotta stay hydrated2. Take a notebook, pen and pencil. And don’t lose them like I did!3. Take a backpack (see tip #4)4. Locate the cloakroom and use it to deposit all your shizzle; merchandise you accumulate (swatches, magazines, lookbooks, samples) throughout the day.5. Enjoy the refreshments from ALL stands, don’t be shy, help yourself and eat. You’ll be hungry later!6. Take business cards, and plenty of them. You’ll get talking to the stand attendees and you never know when you might make some contacts and meet some inspiring or important people.7. Plan your time wisely. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
