What Christmas Jumper Are You?
Festive jumpers have come a long way in recent times and are no longer just a poorly constructed piece knitted by your gran to be worn once on Christmas day – all of the feels. So to get into the festive spirit, just in time for those office Christmas parties, we’ve pulled together our favourite festive sweaters that you won’t want to take off this winter. What Christmas jumper are you?The Classic Christmas Jumper What can be more festive than a classic Christmas jumper? Taking after the jumpers that we’ve worn throughout December for decades, the classic Christmas jumper looks just like the ones that your gran used to knit for you when you were younger. You love a no-nonsense Christmas, just like the ones in the movies. The Funny Christmas Jumper The type of jumper that makes you laugh the moment you see it, usually something to do with santa doing something he shouldn’t or a snowman dressed in comedy clobber. Your Christmas isn’t complete without a little bit of fun and it’s normally you that’s playing the pranks. The Cheesy Christmas Jumper Your Christmas jumper is an absolute cheese-fest. It’s likely a little bit novelty with a Christmas cracker style pun on the front or an all over print of some kind of Christmas food. Reindeers and Elves are in too.The Pop Culture Christmas Jumper Christmas is all about Christmas movies. You probably start off with Home Alone during the last week of November and gradually make your way to Elf on Christmas Eve. A Christmas Carol is strictly reserved for the big day though. Your Christmas Jumper tells the story and likely has song lyrics, movie quote or a celebrity on the front. The Naughty Christmas Jumper Your attempt at a Christmas jumper is definitely PG13 but still brings laughter all around. Usually found with a pun about Jingling Bells or Grabbing Baubles. Santa is normally involved in some pretty precarious positions too. Whatever you get up to over the festive period, it’s likely to get you on the naughty list. The Cool Christmas Jumper Your Christmas is all about not embracing Christmas. You’d prefer to be on a beach somewhere in the sun or down the pub with your mates instead of sitting around with your family. Your Christmas jumper is about food, drink or just plain hating Christmas.
20 in 2016
This year marks the 20th anniversary of some classics in film. Yes, they might be older than some of us, but they’re not only film classics but style classics too. If you haven’t seen them, we suggest you give them a go.1. From Dusk ‘till Dawn – you might have seen the recent TV series adaptation. The movie was better. Salma Hayek dancing with snakes? George Clooney trying to tame his crazed brother, played by Quentin Tarantino? We’ll take that, and we’ll take Clooney’s vest/open shirt/blazer combo too. 2. Happy Gilmore – We have friend who watches this movie with girls to make him look sensitive, and it works, every time. It’s an Adam Sandler movie and possibly his best. He’s an unlucky baseball hopeful who tries to save his grans retirement home by turning to golf. He wears some killer’90s shirts. ‘nuff said. 3. Kingpin – Woody Harrelson and Bill Murrey star in a movie about bowling. A pro bowler (stay with us) loses his hand but with the help of an Amish guy manages to get back in the game. Checked trouser, a false arm and class actors. It has it all! 4. Independence Day – The best (or one of the best) action movies of its time. Aliens. Will Smith need we say more? 5. Trainspotting – Not the most cheerful film on the list but a true cult classic. A must watch. It’s the turbulent tale of a group of friends in 90’s Edinburgh, starring a young Ewan McGregor and Johnny Lee Miller.
Trends to Carry through to 2016
2015 was a big year for fashion. From high end designer shake ups to androgyny taking centre stage, there’s a lot to look back on. But what will we take through to 2016? Here are some trends that you can count on sticking around for the long haul, or at least ‘til summer.1. Military A huge colour for AW15/16 that we’ll see come right through to summer. It’s uniform dressing at its most literal. In 2015 it was the utility coat that was the hero of winter months and that, alongside the classic parka will continue to reign through the first part of the year. We’ll see this moving on for summer with utility getting ever more relevant, it’s a great festival trend so get ready to khaki up with shirts, trousers and light puffa jackets. 2. Tonal DressingThe easiest update of last year continues. With help from the Nautical trend dropping early this year, you can layer up your blues and look totally on trend with minimal effort. Plus, denim counts! So grab your indigo wash jeans and blue sweat and it’s literally as easy as that! 3. Mod RevivalOur favourite trend of last year returns with a tonal twist. This year’s Mod nods to utility with pocket shirts and streamlined pieces. The favourite jacket of 2015 returns in the MA1 bomber along with the classic track jacket. This will be Madchester’s go to style of the season. 4. Double DenimWith the aforementioned Nautical trend hailing indigo hues as key and the boiler suit making another attempt at hitting the mainstream, all over denim has never been easier. With a legion of new jeans styles for 2016, boohooMAN’s denim offering continues to gain pace, and with long line denim jackets to boot, you can work your double denim with pride.
boohooMAN meet Joel Mcloughlin
We caught up with Joel Mcloughlin aka Gallucks to talk about his life as a fashion blogger. What inspired you to start blogging?I got inspired by other blogs that I used to read when I was at college like Katelovesme and Style Bubble, I just started my own blog and it's taken around 5/6 years to get to where I am today! How would you describe your blogging style? My blogging style is purely about my outfits, 100% personal content, inspired by design, fashion, art and architecture. What did you do before blogging?I worked for the Net-A-Porter group as a product stylist. What was your first fashion based job?My first fashion based job was as an assistant stylist for Rikki Finlay, I worked with her on clients like boy bands, tv shows (including the X-Factor) and music videos.Who did you enjoy styling most whilst working as assistant stylist at the X-Factor?Probably Luke Friend and Rough Copy because their styles were not mainstream and I loved that. What made you go into blogging full time?It sort of became a part time job early 2015 and It got a bit much for me to be working at Net-a-porter and doing my blog at the same time - I wanted to dedicate more time to my blog, Instagram and YouTube channel so I did! It was the best decision I ever made. Who are your fashion influences? My fashion influences are all my friends, designers, brands etc. I don't have one set influence, it changes all the time! Who/What are your influences with your day to day outfits?Whatever is clean and comfortable! aha I generally have one piece that I want to wear that day and then build my outfit around that. Who’s your favourite musical artist right now?Probably have to say Mura Masa or Jack Garratt. What’s the coolest moment of your blogging career to date? The coolest moment? I really don't know! It would probably just be everything from all the amazing brands that I've been able to work with and all the events/experiences that I've been able to do through my blog. You’ve traveled quite a lot… where is your favourite place to go to and why?My favourite place that I've been to would have to be Seoul in South Korea - it was like living in the future and it was awesome. When you take photos for your blog or Instagram do you use a camera or your phone?A mixture of both! If it's for Instagram then it's probably my phone but I also use my Canon 700d to shoot for my blog - I also work with a lot of photographers who all have different cameras too! Do you use any filters or programs to edit your images?I use afterlight and snapseed on my phone to edit images and on my laptop I use Photoshop to change the lighting etc. When you’re not blogging what are you doing?Writing emails, editing a blog post, eating food or filming/editing my YouTube videos. Any final words of advice for the budding bloggers out there?Just keep it up! If you want to start a blog, just start it and post quality content regularly, try and improve on every previous post! - that's the best piece of advice I can give you. Best Dressed - Kanye West
What is it about crazy celebrities and changing hairstyles? From Britney Spears to Kanye West, any time one of our beloved A-Listers goes off the rails, so does their hair style. This week Mr. West finally made a public appearance after his exhaustion-induced breakdown, with the announcement that not only is he back at home and on the road to recovery, he's also back in the studio. What was more shocking than his apparent recovery was his new blonde locks. Never one to shy away from being a little different, Yeezy was seen sporting dyed blonde hair circa Eminem-late-2000s. Aside from the gold top, he looked pretty well put together to say that he'd just gotten out of hospital. Dressed in an oversized sweat, skinny joggers and a pair of clean white trainers, Kanye again proved that he is the king of effortless cool. With that in mind, we've pulled together a couple of pieces so you can get the look but if you really want to go all of the way, you'll have to buy the dye elsewhere.
